Catenoid
The catenoid is the eldest known minimal surface. It is the only
minimal surface which is also a surface of rotation. Near its neck it looks
like a hyberboloid. But one can generate it by rotation around the z-axis of
the curve of equation x = cosh(z), so far away from its neck it gets more and
more flat.
